2024 High School Scholarship Application 

Minimum $500 Per Scholarship

Home Builders Care of Fargo-Moorhead Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of its annual scholarships to high school students interested in pursuing lucrative careers in the building trades.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and students currently enrolled in high school. Throughout their academic career, students are eligible to receive up to four awards from Home Builders Care of Fargo-Moorhead Foundation for all technical schools and universities.

Application Deadline: April 8, 2024

Scholarships will be presented at a reception hosted at the Home Builders Care Foundation / Building Industry Association of the RRV (formerly Home Builders Association of F-M) office. Event details will be provided to all scholarship recipients. 

Scholarship amounts will be awarded at a $500 minimum.

One or more awards may be issued. The awarded funds will be held until students have graduated from high school and proof of enrollment at Minnesota State Community and Technical College or North Dakota State College of Science is provided to Home Builders Care of Fargo-Moorhead Foundation. Proof of enrollment must be provided within 18 months of graduation or the scholarship will be forfeited.

It includes all required items and tips for submitting a competitive application. Applicants will be evaluated on presentation, format and completeness of application materials using a point-based system as described below.

Applications that do not contain all requested information will not be considered for scholarship awards.


Application Process

To be eligible, applicants must plan to enroll in residential construction trades or a related field (e.g., plumbing, electrical, building construction technology, construction management, heating/air conditioning, etc.) at:

1. Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M State) in Moorhead

2. North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) in Wahpeton

Scholarship recipients must provide proof of this enrollment within 18 months of graduation or the scholarship will be forfeited.

We recommend preparing your information so you are ready to complete the form in one session. Uploads of the typewritten statement require pdfs or Microsoft Word documents. What you will need to UPLOAD or EMAIL:

  • UPLOAD: A typewritten statement including your full name (up to two pages,Word document or PDF).

OR

  • EMAIL: A video statement including your full name (3-5 minutes, MP4).

Which ever option you choose, your message must include your full name and include your community experience, future plans and past projects involving physical/hands-on effort.

Judging Guidelines

A scholarship evaluation committee consisting of Home Builders Care of Fargo-Moorhead Foundation Board Trustees, Building Industry Association of the RRV members and staff, and Student Chapter advisors will determine recipients of scholarship awards based on information in the application packet. Applicants will be evaluated using a point system based on the items listed below. Incomplete applications will not be considered for scholarship awards. 

  • 10 points - Community experience (volunteering, etc.)
  • 10 points - Future plans
  • 10 points - Past projects involvoing physical/hands-on effort (building/carpentry/gardening, etc.)
  • 10 points - Overall application
