Built on skill, strengthened by teamwork

Welcome to our “Faces of the BIA” series! We are excited to introduce you to the businesses and people behind our Building Industry Association. It’s all about fostering connections, celebrating our members and helping you get to know the incredible companies that make up our BIA family!

Ask Matt Sharp what sets his company apart, and the answer is immediate: his team. Each crew member brings unique strengths, depth and versatility, meaning they can take on just about anything.

From office staff and project managers to foremen, journeymen and apprentices, Matt says their “commitment to ongoing training ensures that we continually refine our skills to deliver the highest quality workmanship and the best possible experience for our clients.”

Jon Hanson started the business in 2003, focused on plumbing. A 2005 North Dakota State University graduate, Matt handles Precision’s business development & client relations. He knows the HVAC world is always changing to improve and plumbing is evolving. Precision Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, Dirtworks is passionate about community involvement and valuing giving back to those who supported them along the way.

Matt points out that the industry performs best when economic conditions support investment in new infrastructure and facilities.

“Demand increases with growth in commercial construction, residential development, renovations, expansions and the addition of new properties such as vacation homes and multi-unit housing,” he says. “We have to be looking for additional opportunities for remodels and residential replacement when construction is slower.”

What he enjoys most about his job is simple: all the people. Meeting new faces, connections and watching relationships grow. His advice to anyone starting in the industry is the find a mentor or group to get advice from and help solve challenges, because “you rarely can do it alone.”

Since joining Precision, Matt has fully immersed himselve in activities with the Building Industry Association. He attends as many social events as possible, serves on the Parade of Homes and Events Committees and has stepped up to be vice chair for BIA Ambassadors which focuses on membership recruitment and retention.

And through every step of Matt’s career, he says the credit doesn’t belong to him. He believes his accomplishments come from the gifts God provides and that confidence guides his work and daily life.
